Who are we?

The founding members of the BrightStar® Independent Franchisee Association represent a broad range of experience and business models.  Some opened their first office in 2007 and some as recently as 2013.  Some provide exclusively skilled nursing services and some the full range of services from companion care to 24-7 RN care.  What we all have in common is our commitment to providing excellent care and service and building a premium brand one client at a time.

Recognizing that there are business challenges common to all of us, the Franchisee Association is committed to building a collaborative relationship with BrightStar
® Franchising LLC that improves the business results for all franchisees and the franchisor.  We have chosen to affiliate with the American Association of Franchisees and Dealers (AAFD) because of their collaborative, "win-win" approach to developing the franchisee - franchisor relationship.

What We've Done to Help Franchisees

  • Formed a legal fund trust in January 2018, funded by voluntary contributions from more than thirty owners, to pay for legal evaluations of new franchise agreements or proposals impacting a broad group of owners
  • Conducted two Unit Profitability Surveys in 2016 and 2017 to understand true unit profitability among BrightStar Franchisees and the common challenges to achieving fair and equitable margins. The findings of the 2016 survey spurred the Franchise Advisory Board to create the Unit Profitability Task Force, which includes two members of the Association.
  • Retained Dady & Gardner in 2016 to analyze and negotiate the terms of the Early Renewal Agreement, resulting in amendments to the agreement which produced terms more favorable to all franchisees
  • Proposed a Unit Profitability segment at the 2014 Owners' Conference which resulted in Greg Crabtree's unit profitability sessions at every conference since 2014
  • Proposed performance groups for interested owners at the 2014 Owners' Conference to improve operating results and share best practices
  • Challenged the 2% GMF Addendum in 2014 and retained outside counsel, allowing participating owners to opt out of the Addendum and retain the terms of their original Franchise Agreement
